Make Your Movie Now!
(In Person & Online)
Stop Dreaming. Start Filming.
Have you ever dreamed of making your own short film but felt too scared to start? Maybe you don’t know where to begin—or you think you don’t have the right equipment, experience, or budget to pull it off.
Well, guess what? You can do this. And I’m here to help you make it happen.
Make Your Movie Now! is a fun, hands-on 6-week filmmaking class designed to take you from “I’ve always wanted to make a movie” to “I just finished my first short film!”
This class is all about progress over perfection. We’ll keep it simple, we’ll keep it fun, and by the end of the course, you’ll have a completed short film—one you can be proud of.
And here’s the best part—once you’ve made one, you’ll be ready to make another. That’s why our motto is:
“We want to finish this film, so that the next one will be even better!”
Who Is This Class For?
- Absolute beginners who’ve never made a film before.
- People with a secret dream of becoming a filmmaker but don’t know where to start.
- Creative souls who want to tell stories and see them come to life on screen.
- Anyone who’s ready to take action and finally make their movie.
No fancy cameras? No problem. This class is built around working with what you’ve got. Whether you’re using a smartphone, a basic camera, or just starting from scratch, I’ll show you how to use whatever tools you have to bring your ideas to life.
What You’ll Learn
Over 6 weeks, you’ll get step-by-step guidance on how to:
- Write your script. You’ll learn how to create a story that works within the time and resources you already have.
- Plan and produce your shoot. From storyboarding to shot lists, you’ll get organized so filming feels exciting, not overwhelming.
- Find your directing style. Learn how to work with actors, block scenes, and make creative decisions.
- Edit your film. Put it all together and add the final touches that make your project shine.

By The End Of This Course You’ll Have:
- A completed short film (yes, really!).
- A repeatable process you can use to make more films.
- The confidence to keep growing as a filmmaker.
What Makes This Class Different?
I know how intimidating filmmaking can feel. That’s why this class is designed for beginners.
I’ve spent years teaching filmmaking and working as a filmmaker myself, and I’ve helped tons of students just like you overcome fear and finish their first films. My teaching style is positive, encouraging, and supportive.
We’ll focus on doing the work—not chasing perfection—and you’ll be surrounded by a small, creative group of fellow filmmakers who are just as excited (and nervous) as you are.
We keep it simple. We keep it fun. And most importantly, we finish what we start.
– For ages 18 & Older
– This class is limited to 10 students
From 2001 to 2007 Tom taught Improv Classes, Sketch Writing Classes and Commercia Audition Workshops at The Second City Training Center.
In 2007, Tom Booker from Los Angeles to Austin and opened The Institution Theater, a theater and improv school in South Austion which remained open until March 2020. (Thanks, COVID!)
